In shadows cast, a lone man's quest,
With courage true, he did invest,
A torch ablaze, a beacon bright,
To pierce the dark and bring forth light.
A heart of gold, compassion's fire,
He set forth on a noble sire,
To save a soul from depths of night,
Guided by love, he sought the right.
Through haunted woods and perilous streams,
He chased the echoes of her dreams,
An angel lost in somber woe,
He vowed to free her, let love's flow.
The torch he held, a guiding star,
Illumined paths both near and far,
Yet as he journeyed, unaware,
The darkness grew, its weight, a snare.
The maiden's cries, they called him on,
A fervent hope that she be drawn,
From darkness' grasp, its icy hold,
But in this quest, a tale unfolds.
For as he neared her fateful plight,
The torch's light began to fight,
The shadows' strength, relentless, cruel,
To quench the flame, the heart's own fuel.
He reached the girl, held out his hand,
Yet darkness rose, a ruthless band,
It pulled him in, a twisted dance,
He tried to flee, but had no chance.
His sacrifice, profound and deep,
In shadows now, he's doomed to weep,
The torch he brought, it flickered low,
As darkness swallowed all aglow.
Though hero's heart and brave intent,
The man now dwells in torment,
A lesson learned, a bitter cost,
In trying to save, he, too, was lost.
So let this tale a warning be,
Of love and light and bravery,
But in the dark, one must take care,
For light can fade, and hope ensnare.
