Grenades and Memories

BY: AMORBABY

In days of youth, through sun and fog,

A boy and dog, an unbroken bond.

Laughter echoed, pure and free,

Friendship sealed eternally

Through fields, they'd roam, in joyous play,

Their spirits entwined, day by day.

A memory, a treasure trove,

Of love and loyalty, never to dissolve

Yet fate's cruel twist, a world undone,

Biological blight, a dreadful run.

His faithful friend, a rabid sight,

Mindless, savage, a haunting plight.

But in those eyes, a flicker, a gleam,

Recognition in the chaotic stream.

A chew thrown forth, an old routine,

Yet now a grenade, a harrowing scene.

Tears cascade, a heart's lament,

For a bond that time could not prevent.

A dog still loved, amidst despair,

A friendship's memory, beyond repair.
